Why are people pissed about Capcom preventing mods and cheats?
Just why?

I’m not defending Enigma or anything, I’m just really curious. People are wishing Capcom would go bankrupt, blocking them, threatened that they would not buy their future games and boycott Capcom products, etc. Just a whole lot of drama breaking out just because the developers added a simple system to prevent cheaters. I didn’t know there were this much modders or cheaters in this game. People are this quick at jumping into conclusions, they never think about why Capcom does it because I believe they did it for a reason.

I thought this was supposed to be an enjoyable game, not tampering with the files game.

In my opinion, I think Capcom should have 2 different RE4R separate games, one for modding purposes that will not have nothing to do with the RE4R servers, and other one for real gameplay.

Edit: I think people are overreacting to this.

So what are they preventing exactly?

I’m also very unfamiliar with Enigma as I’ve never heard of it before. Based on what I’ve read from these discussion posts, I understand that Enigma is a tool to make it more harder for modders to mod the game.

I won’t take that for an answer.

shrug

re5 has had enigma for over a year and mods and cheats still work

People like mods and people like to use cheats in single-player games. PC gaming allows freedoms other platforms don't, and that is one of the reasons why people like it. An attack on that is attack on the hobby pure and simple.

There's no reason to add additional DRM's into the game. Most reasonable people were tolerating of Denuvo because Capcom was good about removing it when the game was considered "end of life", but now they're removing Denuvo and attaching unnecessary DRM.

Instead of doing that and getting pointless backlash and negative opinions towards their company, they should be removing all DRM at "end of life" and putting the games for sale on GOG also.

That would be a pro-consumer move and a good look for them, which would be the total opposite of what they've been doing. It's just amazing how dumb these companies actually are.

Capcom in general has just gotten more and more anti-consumer over the years. Their paid cheats is a good example, were as before you'd have a single unlock for everything at a reasonable price, but now it's numerous micro-transactions with golden tickets and the like that ramp up in cost while still providing less than a $5 unlock everything DLC did in previous RE's.

Then why put it in? I mean, if it's not doing anything and all it's doing is causing backlash to the company...

It is literally the answer tho, unless you count preventing piracy. There may be licensing/monetary reasons for them swapping from Denuvo to Enigma.

I’m sorry but if they are preventing nothing then there’s no reason Capcom would add it. Developers make changes for a reason.
as stated, Enigma is already in RE5, and does absolutely nothing to prevent mods and cheats, and in fact recent implementation of Enigma has broken game compatibility with Steam Deck and some Windows users, Monster Hunter Rise being the most recent example.

you can believe whatever you want, but the fact is, players don't like retroactive and invasive software wrecking their gaming experience after they've purchased a game, and enough damage has been done to Resident Evil Revelations and Monster Hunter Rise so far that good will has been lost and people are either trying to get refunds or otherwise boycotting Capcom. the truth is, we don't like being treated like cheaters and thieves just because we want to mod our SINGLEPLAYER (operative word for these instances) experiences, especially by a software that both breaks previously functional games, and doesn't even perform as advertised to the publisher.

how else should we treat Capcom for this? open arms and hurrahs? kumbayah at some boy scout bonfire? no thanks bro. that's not how anti-consumerism works. you blame the paying customer, you get bent.

As of now, Enigma hasn't prevented mods or cheats yet. I don't know why they even bother adding it at that point. Probably a change just for the sake of change

Exactly, there's no point adding DRM. Capcom should listen to the customers.
Because the PC community isn't so kind when it comes to DRM.

Honestly I could care less about DRM, it barely even affects anyone. Often than not people get mad when they hear about DRM because people tell them to. The only thing that would ruin it for me is if it prevented modding which it has not.
Just like one DRM isn't enough for us PC gamers !!
This DRM is to clear cheaters from leaderboards
