Bolt arrows disappearing
i saw on another forum suggesting if you wait to long to retrieve the bolts, that they'll disappear. But just recently i killed a ganados with em and they didnt spawn at all, luckly i just saved so i reloaded the save and the 2nd time they did respawn for me to retrieve em. was it a bug or what?

I suggest go for leg shot with Bolt Thrower. This way, the bolts will always end up on the ground if it miss and will not vanish into the 4th dimension.

Maybe its just a high chance to retrieve them, like 90%.

So far I've not had any bolts disappearing mysteriously, only in cases where i've missed and they've flown off into the void (don't use them by edges or places you can't get to) or when using the attachable mines, in which case they are MEANT to be destroyed.

I lose them all the time. I missed a ganado inside a house who was standing in front of a wall. Bolt was gone.

Near as I can tell, some conditions can destroy bolts. A bolt hitting an enemy shield/helmet/blade (anything that makes a clang) seems to eat up the bolt sometimes. Nothing super consistent, but that's when I've most often noticed bolts go missing.

i think shooting them in the head and then the head turns into a plagas can eat bolts as well.

I've lost some bolts when aiming too high, the item was there up against a wall but too far from me to pick up, same if you sometime shoot in specific spots just out of reach due to an obstacle.

Firing on shields also made me lose some (although I never lost them against knight armors), or just firing them on enemies that appear in places the player can't get to. Beware of scripted stuff like the cabin fight too, if you use your bolts at the end before the last custscene you won't be able to come back and pick them up.

It's extremely rare that they'd just disappear for no reason, if you hit someone with them and pick them back up you get the full count.

But the occasional loss is so rare that it's well worth keeping this weapon, by the time you lose 5 bolts you will have saved hundreds of handgun ammo

Killed a strong guy in the second area of the game, and despite ALL my bolts going into him, I permanently lost 10 bolts.

I have had the odd bolt disappear when killing enemies before. However something I did not expect I just found out while I was just messing around with the Bolt Thrower max upgraded (with Exclusive).

It appears the game only keeps track of 10 Bolts at a time. I shot 20 in to the wall, but could only retrieve 10. I then tested again shooting in a line, and after 10 I watched the ones shot first disappear. Kind of silly for a gun which has an exclusive upgrade to double it's capacity to 20 Bolts.

Happened to me too, shot down a crow and didn't get the bolt back, or there was a time where I did pick it back up and it didn't appear in my inventory. I overall dislike the weapon anyway, very few occasions where it comes useful.

the bolts go through the crow and hit whatever is behind it. (I only know cuase I shot a grow while it was on teh ground in the graveyard and the bolt was stuck in the tombstone behind it.

I did just lose like 6 bolts to edward scissor hands even though right up to his death I could seem them all sticking out of him...

In relation to this, I believe the game keeps track of 10 stacks of bolts, not the number of bolts. So if you shoot and miss, that's one stack, a stack of one bolt. If you shoot an enemy 5 times and they die, they'll drop one stack of 5. So the 10 stack limit shouldn't be a problem unless you're just missing like crazy.
Be thankful. I had a Bazooka vanish after I paid for the bloody thing.
Yea I'm experiencing bolts being randomly lost in the first garrador encounter. repeated the fight a few times to test, it even varies from 10 to 2 being permanently lost (they're not in the walls either)... it seems like the number of bolts I shot at his back/back plaga is always more than what I collect at his corpse at the end
