Our Adventurer Guild mixes tactical team-based combat with the management of several teams of adventurers in a world of high fantasy.
Neither part of the gameplay stood well on its own.  The tactical combat is straightforward without being exciting (I never had the same thrill of trying out a brand-new skill or spell the way I did) and the managerial is both unwieldy and dull.  Even as I began to unlock new structures in my guild, none excited me.  Discovering new classes made a meaningful difference in combat, but it was just the difference of seeing certain numbers rise more quickly than they previously had.  My favorite character was stronger as a knight than she'd been as a warrior -- but I never really felt invested in her.  I was excited at the idea of my characters befriending each other: when they did,  I received higher bonuses, but dialogue remained repetitive and insipid.
The game has a problem with incentives: it's not always clear whether it's better to complete sidequests or to plunge ahead with the main plotline.  Important upgrades (such as to maximum team size) become purchasable only by completing story missions, so I oftentimes ran out of guild upgrades long before I was ready for the next story missions.  I completed sidequests all the while feeling as if I was missing the upgrades (such as access to upper-tier classes) that would allow me to make the most out of those quests.  The game's easy repeatable sidequests become only marginally easier and faster with time, and they're where I found myself spending a lot of my time, hoping for the randomized repeatable events that I was looking for while slowly accruing the experience points and other resources that I'd need to take on each subsequent story mission.
To make everything worse, the writing was truly terrible.  The developers didn't leave me wanting to engage in the plot or to spend more time with any of the NPCs.  The world feels predictable and sterile.
I'd like to praise two aspects of the game.  First, I liked the use of the bravery resource, which allows characters to perform impressive feats (such as regaining action points) while also granting passive bonuses.  That mechanic felt fun, although it never felt like anything more than another set of numbers rising and falling (which the developers might as well have called "Judge Points" or "Virtue Points").  Second, the degree of difficulty felt right: missions weren't easy and, when I played sloppily, my characters died as a result.  The permadeath felt fair (I speak as someone who feels as if he's not occasionally losing party members in a strategy game, he's playing at too low of a difficulty setting).
I wanted to enjoy this game: I like tactical-style combat and team management (the two XCOM remakes being high on my list of favorites) and my friend not only recommended the game but managed to complete every single achievement!  Only after twenty-four hours of not enjoying myself did I call quits on the game.
I played this game on my Deck.  I think that, with a keyboard and mouse, navigating the menus would have been easier, reducing the game's tedium.
