X-Plane 12

X-Plane 12

How's the ATC?
What's current state of x-plane 12's ATC? I used xp11 a lot, but ATC there is terrible, does really wired stuff and lacks VFR support. I know xp12 got some VFR support but, how good is it? Also, does ATC still guides you for landing in really wired patterns, navigates away from airports or even aborts communication on final?

I played the demo from Laminar's website, but in short 15 minute long sessions it's hard to judge if it's still making mistakes or is it just me doing something wrong.

I really want to play around with some ATC and a little bit of traffic around, but my main focus are GA and most of time smaller airports. VATSIM is not really an option for me, because I often have to stop mid-flight for various real life reasons... so offline it is. Should I maybe wait for new MFS? (i prefer xplane flight physics much more though...)

I apologize as I can't answer your question as I use VATSIM and PilotEdge however there is a big thread on XP 12 ATC that I will link below. There are third-party alternatives for ATC such as Pilot2ATC and SayIntentions. Also I would like to note that from what I have heard at least initially the ATC in MSFS 2024 isn't going to be that much of an improvement over MSFS.

Thank you very much for this link, somehow I missed this thread while looking for info!
Pilot2ATC always seemed to be the best solution, but I never got myself to try it out, maybe I should do it already.
You're welcome. :)
I find ATC in Xplane 12 better than in MSFS2020 (for example), it is more direct and more accurate also and it's good for vectored landings. It's a bit annoying sometimes not respecting your route plan (you type your route in the section for IFR flight, so the ATC should know the waypoints where you're gonna pass through, but they give you non sense vectors throughout all the flight), but in terms of vectored approaches I found the Xplane 12 ATC quite good. The new resource for recognizing IFR departure and approach procedures, by the other hand, still needs some improvements in my opinion.
I played some XPlane 11 and found the ATC to be pretty awful. So far I am finding the ATC to be much improved in XPlane, especially in VFR. I haven't tried with other AI traffic so can't comment on if it behaves well under multiple agent scenarios

In resum: I found the vectored approach quite good and precise, but when you use the new resource for IFR procedures assigned by the ATC it's unprecise yet, it doesn't recognize the movements you're doing and say you're off course and eventually the ATC cancel your approach.
