I still fly FS2 from time to time, mainly because of the better frame rate and maximum detail settings I get. The landscape looks better, more detailed, and FS2 is smother than FS4 on a low to mid level PC, they added allot more 3D buildings in FS4 which eats up resources, but when you’re at 30,000 feet you really can’t tell, the clouds however are a different story, in VR they look like cotton balls hanging in space and when you move your head they become distorted, I have them turned off, allot of the airports and landscape look better in FS2 than in FS4, LAX, Las Vegas, Key West DLC, Innsbruck DLC and NY City DLCs just to name a few. Of course you will still spend a lot of money on the detailed DLCs and add-on aircraft. The biggest downside to FS2 is the small selection of aircraft compared to FS4 and only a small hand full can be started cold and dark, and the limited areas you can fly, even with the DLCs. I bought FS2 before FS4 was ever heard of. I have both and with the FS4 aircraft selection growing, worldwide airport and all but 3 aircraft starting cold and dark (Concord, F15 and F18) FS4 is the wiser option, but you will need a more powerful PC. FS2 still looks great even on low settings and that’s why I still recommend it. When I want to show my friends what flying in VR is like I use FS2.
