Haven't played CW yet, but on IW it took around 5 mins, if not less. I'll report back in a bit.
For me it was stuck at 0% 2/4 for like 5-10 mins, then it started doing stuff, but very slowly. It ended up taking around half an hour.

For me it was stuck at 0% 2/4 for like 5-10 mins, then it started doing stuff, but very slowly. It ended up taking around half an hour.

I had to verify the game files, had 4 that were borked... after that it finished in about 10 minutes. Then I wasn't getting any menu, just stuck in the opening video... that was fixed by unplugging the controller. Now I've got 86 minutes of played time, without even getting into the game yet... I'll be out of my refund window before I even get to try playing it.

The shader compilation is used in many modern large titles. The optimized shaders are a necessity for good performance. Unfortunately the time it takes to compile is purely dependent on your computer's hardware. When the game is installed on an NVMe then it'd generally take around 5 minutes. I had a friend with a low-end computer and for him it took ~20 minutes, but it only happens once per game update (which shouldn't happen considering the game is past its lifespan) or GPU driver update.

I wouldn't exactly call mine low end and it takes about 15 - 20 minutes.
I agree...it shouldn't happen past the one time at install. It's annoying...lol. Then the game went all buggy when I tried to tell it to wait till later. That was even more annoying. I had to verify game files after the whole thing crashed and recompile anyway.
I have another game that does it every time I start the game, but it doesn't take nearly as long.
I guess next time my driver updates I'll just go make a sandwich...lol.

13700K w/ 7200mhz ram and (2) WD black m.2's in RAID-0; took 8 minutes this time. The can it run crysis joke is over, now its can it compile COD shaders!

Go to C:\ProgramData\Activision\Call Of Duty Black Ops Cold War and delete the shadercache folder; then game should recomile shaders on startup afte a couple of minutes from launch; the building shaders then takes around 5 minutes.

This is a pretty old post and I've since deleted the game from my library. But thanks for the response just the same.
