Alone in the Dark Prologue

Alone in the Dark Prologue

My impression of the demo
Besides the technical issues (camera position and handling, QTEs), I as someone not familiar with the original am not sure what it is meant to be in terms of the story and the gameplay.

1. The trailer is showing some kind of combat, the demo feels more like a suspense kind of horror game. Btw is it a horror game at all? If there will be combat encounters, the sluggish camera movement will become an issue. It might even make flight sequences unnecessarily uncomfortable.

2. The character in the demo doesn't seem to be frightened at all. Which is funny somehow because scary things happen but she doesn't care. It seems like she is either not aware of a threat at all or she's (used to) lucid dreaming. Either way it takes away the tension for the player. At least that's what it does for me.

Thank you for your feedback!

1. Yes, it is a horror game, though obviously what counts as horror can be subjective--what is frightening or suspenseful to some people is unimpressive to others. There will be some combat in the full game as well as puzzles--the Prologue however is intended to be an atmospheric teaser, to give an impression of the general style and atmosphere of the game.

2. There is a reason for that design choice. Whether it was a good one or not depends on the eye of the beholder. I'd say I've seen a pretty even split between players who find it immersion-breaking and players who find it intriguing.

Thanks, I respect your decision. Forgot to mention that the final shot was just hilarious :-)
So yeah, it's kind of a cliffhanger. I guess I'm in between those two parties, with both opinions inside of me ;-)

Jeremy was pretty important to the original, but everything else was completely different.
i guess I am also in the middle. Atmosphere is good but I fear that the big 'plot twist" will be the girl is dreaming it all up, they are all "her" monsters or similar - that last shot!. Game mechanics seem solid but a bit too traditional. Anyway it did not manage to annoy me, so I am looking forward to the full release.
PS: I played the original back in early 90s but most things about it I forgot but movement is a lot better for sure :D
PPS: 16GB for 10 mins of demo, wow!
