Try using Gaia's Eternal blessing, generally extremely useful at beating attacks even up into the late game(So long as you maintain a half decent income of wood and favour)
That or figure out a strat for rushing one of the AI and rely on your TC and towers(Or even some cheap walls) to hold off the initial few strikes(move your villagers behind or further away to avoid stalling your eco).
There's also the Lashing roots route, which is a solid option thanks to Athena's world twist so you can just base a strat around your heroes so long as their not Egyptian priests.
My sister owns it and we have family-share; your choice though.
I've been using Ares and found bowmen with toxic upgrades to be awesome.
Also used Apollo to give temples healing which makes for a quick push after they attack you.
