"You can no longer authenticate on new devices"
So, after spending one hour trying to get this game to work on Steam Deck (it doesn't, btw), I now can't even load the game. I am directed to a page that says "Currently your game purchase cannot be re-validated successfully, please wait 24 hours and try again."

Did I trigger some kind of DRM? Because if so, I might as well get a refund for this. It's too much of a bother...

I played a couple of hours on my Steam Deck today. It also works for a lot of other people.

You've probably triggered the Denuvo garbage DRM that infests this game. Dunno what you did to trigger a validation error, unless you installed the game to a lot of devices (more than 5?). I have the game on Steam Deck and desktop with no issues.
Thats denuvo for ya. Restricting reinstalls to 5 times a day or so.

Well, it "works," but with errors. I did not get to try the GE Proton thing (the DRM stuff you are describing triggered as I was about to launch the game with that).

I only have the game on the Deck and my PC. It runs fine on the PC. I don't know what I did either. Outside of just trying to run the game with different Proton configs (and comparing it with how it was running on the PC), I did nothing else...

Sounds like Denuvo counts each Proton version as a new device, once you hit the limit it shut you off for 24 hours.

That... would explain it. Thanks!
Any way around this? Like if you delete and download again? Or do we pretty much just have to wait 24 hours?

In my experience you have to wait, there's no way to de-authenticate on the user's end as far as I'm aware.
But I thought Denuvo only affects pirates! (I never actually thought this, because it's ridiculous.)
No there is no way around it. Thats the reason denuvo is used. The whole reason. To bully legit buiers like you who struggle to get it running.

its bearable, sure. But i wouldn't even want to be in this situation ^^

You can try to refund and buy it again. Maybe you will get another licence from denuvo which will let you install it again. But bear in mind. That this is a stupid idea to begin with XD

just dont waste your money for nothing. Or even (worst case) your account for stupid devs und publishers.
Gotta agree with you 100% my friend m. I’m new to PC gaming, the Steam Deck was my first forray into this. So I’ve never encountered this type of stuff before - I’ve always been on consoles……kind of frustrating….
Well crap, that explains my problem too. I've been trying multiple versions of Proton to get it to work and now I'm locked out. Geez.
iirc it is 5 per day.

it could be 5 in 24h.

the thing is. the First one means you can try it again at 0:00 in your timezone or "the servers timezone" whereever this may be. The last thing meas you have to wait 24h since the first activation.

Since i do try to boycot everything that say "YOU ARE THE PIRATE, THANKS FOR BUYING 11!!!!kappa"... i'm not realy sure with thing it is. ^^
I hope it doesn't mean it refreshes one activation per day, so I have to wait 5 to have them all back. What a piece of junk! And they wonder why people pirate things; at this point I'm inclined to seek a refund. Sorry Atlus; tried to support you but you chose to use the worst kind of DRM on your customers.
Same thing happened for me, trying to get it working on my main rig, and the game softlocks 9 times out of 10 when I'm in a loading screen or when I'm switching resolutions. Woke up this morning, can't even run it on my main rig running either Nobara or Windows 11, because of the damn activation limit. Can only run it on my Deck, and I've been able to recreate the same exact problem that's preventing me from playing on my main rig when docked and plugged into my monitor.

This PC port is busted, and Denuvo isn't helping matters at all. I don't shed a single tear for SEGA crying about people dumping ROMs and emulating the console versions of their games when the bar is so low and inconsistent with their PC releases. And it's probably never gonna be fixed like that busted framelimiter that was causing desync issues (and where the game behaved fine without it) in PD MegaMix+ that people were blaming Denvuo on. Nocturne HD behaves better than this one despite also using Unity.

SEGA is quickly going on my boycott list (especially with them DMCAing SteamDB over an install button on the Yakuza 6 page (Which requires owning the game anyways, and is the exact same as the install button on the Steam page, and forcing Valve to kneecap update rollbacks, because their developers are not competent enough to remove Denuvo-less executables from their Depot history before release), and I'm gonna play the Persona games on PC Game Pass before I decide whether or not the ports aren't lazy and low effort before I buy them on Steam.

Why yes, commission Irdeto to kneecap emulators instead of actually fixing any of the problems that leads people to thinking that playing on a Switch emulator is the best available version on the platform they're playing on, totally won't age poorly. This whole thing is funny considering they don't moderate copyright infringing or stolen ROMs off their Steam Workshop for the Mega Drive Classics.
