Open the folder (...\Steam\steamapps\common\Crysis\Game\Localized), find your Language.lng file and rename it to Default.lng, for example English.lng to Default.lng.
Open the folder (...\Steam\steamapps\common\Crysis\Bin32) and find Crysis application file. Right click on it -> Properties -> Compatibility -> Compatibility mode for Windows Vista (Service Pack 2) -> Apply -> OK.
Note that that's specifically Crysis.exe, (NOT Crysis64.exe) in the Bin64 folder.
Couldn't get the 32-bit version in Bin32 working but I don't suppose it much matters for modern computers, just pick the second option when launching via Steam to start the 64-bit version.

I reinstalled DirectX redist and it helped - I at least got a black screen momentarily...

User Action
1. Open the file again. This situation might be a temporary problem that corrects itself when the program runs again.
2. If the file still cannot be accessed and
- It is on the network, your network administrator should verify that there is not a problem with the network and that the server can be contacted.
- It is on a removable disk, for example, a floppy disk or CD-ROM, verify that the disk is fully inserted into the computer.
3. Check and repair the file system by running CHKDSK. To run CHKDSK, click Start, click Run, type CMD, and then click OK. At the command prompt, type CHKDSK /F, and then press ENTER.

Steam is always running the 32bit version. I get the same first error and info entry if I manually try running the Bin64 Crysis.exe
Setting compatibility on it didn't seem to help.
Editor.exe also crashes similarly after the splash screen.
