You can't to my knowledge.
So no fire immunity lava walking?
*Make note of other thing to complain about*
We have created a world of 2 continents that are separated by lava, the first player on one side, the second player on the second side
t's just somehow illogical that you can't attack the second player because of the lava
There is probably an underground pass between them. Then you can make teleporters to zip across.
I'm guessing what you're missing is that the mountains in AOW4 look impassable as if they were in a ton of 4X games. You can walk across all of them (above the ground, at least), it's just not obvious that you can. I was stuck in one of the story missions trying to figure out how to attack the MFers across the lava for a bit as well.
My magma spirit could not walk across - lava. Seriously?

Well, flying units can't move over water until you unlock seafaring. Don't come looking for common sense here

Lava is like bedrock. just worse. because it is placed in stead of water. Which may be fine in the overworld, but not underground. Resulting in map generation placing areas in locations which would be accessible through water but are then blocked off when the water changes into lava. Lava lakes in the underground either need to get checked if they block access or they should be placed in stead of bedrock provinces.

I'm sorry but this is incorrect. Lava in the Underground does not replace water, it replaces Bedrock. Any place you see Lava Underground would normally have been Bedrock and thus similarly inaccessible.

Just so we're clear here. You necro'd a year old thread, which is already a violation of the Steam Discussion Guidelines, but also did so in a manner that adds nothing new to the conversation.

Ok, good to know. Yet, I see at times areas blocked off by lava, whole cities inaccessible, one or two times another player locked in. If I have a map like that, should I send the save game your way for analysis?
If you get a map where someone is completely locked in then yes, it's a good idea to send a save since it probably isn't intended behavior.

It's not a complete showstopper, though: a player can potentially make use of the isolation to go all-in on economic development with no need to worry about their military and then move into the wider world by way of a teleporter pact. A free city in this situation - as long as it can be contacted - becomes a no-defense-needed source of vassal income.

If it's completely locked in, then yes. There's some caveats there due to Realm Trait combinations but generally things with cities and rulers should not be completely inaccessible.
Hi Jordi,

Thanks for your input. I must say I'm a little disappointed to receive this feedback from you. If you are the same developer that worked on Planetfall, we had many pleasant and productive exchanges (directly by email), something of which I was very happy and proud about, to contribute since I was there from the beginning of release.

You know it's funny, I had no idea, after 20 years of participation on Steam, that Necroing something was an actual violation of terms. I honestly thought it was more productive to comment on something someone already brought up than to start an entire new thread about the same subject. So, fair enough, in the future, instead of using Search and resurrecting something, I will just start from scratch. Actually easier for me to do. Please keep in mind, I just bought the game, so perhaps, I am coming in late to this conversation, however, to the best of my knowledge, the complaints / questions this thread raises has never been adequately addressed. Maybe it has been, but I didn't see it, so please bear with me.

That said, you point is well taken, perhaps I could have expressed my disbelief with less sarcasm, but as long as you are here, and thank you for jumping in, since you are an actual developer and not just a player, would you be kind enough to explain to me the reason lava creatures cannot traverse lava? And someone else made another point I was confused about, what was the reasoning behind flying creatures needing seafaring? Or if it has been discussed, perhaps you (or someone on the thread) could share the relevant link?

I'm not intending to be disrespectful here, since you were very responsive to my many comments on AOWP (if you are JE), however, I am genuinely (1) confused and (2) hoping the Devs might implement changes to the system to reflect the old AOW III rules, as one could do such things there.

Many thanks for your consideration.

Edit: As I'm new to this game, I think I better understand now, so lava is just another alternative to bedrock which I guess is impassable? Under all circumstances? So, it's not like lava from AOWIII. Ok, I guess that explains that. interesting design choice. I suppose had I never played AOWIII I would have been less confused.

If you don't mind and have a moment, I wonder if you might share the reasoning of needing seafaring for flying units? Was that a balance issue of some kind? Because I thought I had read that wrong when I started playing, it's just a confusing concept to me, again, maybe because I had played AOWIII.

Again, many thanks.
