Of course, the devs may decide to change this before Jan 15th.
I hope you do get definitive answers to your questions.
Well not a total clarification but good to know the files are out there. Hopefully we get a straight answer. For us, it's a purchase decision detail that needs to get answered.
- There will be direct peer-to-peer lobbies.
- There will be dedicated servers provided for free to players so that they can run the server locally on their machines without needing to have the game open.
- At some point, there will also be rentable servers to let players run a server continuously without needing to have their machine running.
I presume you can still log in using localhost on the server computer? Will there be instructions for setting this up correctly?

No Direct to IP conenction
No Server search
GPortal servers fail to even start after setup
Nitrado servers keep resseting 'Friend Code' so nobody can join
Valid Friend codes respond with 'There is no server with this code'
Listed servers are limited in number so you can't find and manually connect
No password option so ALL servers are open to ANYBODY if they are listed
