The combat is crisp which is never the case in a From Software game, the graphics and the world building tempts me to keep playing this masterpiece.Hope FS learns from this benchmark.

You know this game, you've played it before. It's Bloodborne for PC mashed unceremoniously with the lore of Pinocchio. What's next, a Souls game based on the Wizard of Oz?

Puppetborne is not a bad game by any stretch. It is as well made with obvious love and care for the genre as any game Fromsoft has done. The absurdity of its setting for a western audience notwithstanding, the setting is well crafted and most of the areas of the game are beautiful. It blends Bloodborne with Sekiro with its strong emphasis on perfect blocking and more aggressive playstyles over defensive ones.

It's not that Puppetborne is lazily made. But 15 years on from the release of Demon's Souls, this genre has essentially gone nowhere. Some people might not find it a problem. If the formula is winning, don't fix what isn't broken. But what I take umbrage with is that this genre feels intellectually lazy by this point. These types of games don't feel very distinguishable from each other anymore. If you played Dark Souls in 2011, you've kinda played this game already. The UI, the method of story delivery, combat loops. It feels more tiresome than anything when an enemy you thought had stopped its attack animation continues on for another five attacks.

It's an easy recommend if you like the Soulsborne formula. It's not a matter of if you will like this game, you're almost guaranteed to. Judging by achievement completion, a third of people who have played have beaten the final boss, which is incredibly high as these things go. My personal opinion after playing Puppetborne is that this genre has already peaked, the Soulsborne craze of the 2010s is winding to its close, and I think I would've preferred a different method of delivery.

Lies of P is a fascinating case of a game being inspired (in this case by Soulsborne) and not only meeting but in some ways even exceeding its point of origin. I'm an avid Soulsborne vet and this game has absolutely swept me off my feet as a "Souls-like" that for all intents and purposes very nearly feels as if it is an actual Miyazaki-helmed Soulsborne entry fresh off of From Software's presses. You play as "P", a puppet that strangely possesses free will that is awakened in the midst of a crisis in the steampunk city of Krat. It is a world where puppets have revolted against the people and overtaken the city while a mysterious disease infests what people have survived the frenzy. In a tale that is a dark, steampunk twist on the classic text "The Adventures of Pinocchio" by Carlo Collodi you must find your father Gepetto, take back the city of Krat from the rogue puppets, and perhaps discover the true nature of the Petrification Disease that is sweeping the city. But what kind of boy will you be on your journey? Will you be a good boy for father and always tell the truth? Or will you exercise your free will and lie to the people, lie to your friends during quests or at your safe haven of Hotel Krat? Right to the faces of your enemies? Maybe you'll fall somewhere in between. But unique to you, that is ultimately your choice.

This game is a Soulsborne game through and through. Soulsborne veterans will feel right at home, new players to the genre won't have a tough time picking it up as the game does a great job of building you up in the very early sections. That being said the game is challenging in true Souls fashion. The highest compliment I can pay Neowiz is say that they made this game with love. The most accurate expression I can detail for this game is that it feels like mish mosh of some of my favorite Soulsborne titles. It has the pace of Dark Souls 3, the presence of rewarding offense like Bloodborne (complete with regaining life on hit after taking damage), yet notably an INCREDIBLE and appreciated focus on developing precise and skillful defense as in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice (parrying in this game is as rewarded and important as Sekiro's deflect mechanic with consideration to stagger and critical attacks). It's a fusion all of these best parts yet it comes together to offer a truly unique experience in and of itself. My only possible nitpick is that the level design while close to the mark at times feels noticeably linear although in a lot of ways I think that works for this game. Also the English voice acting can feel a little campy at times.

The game is very well optimized and super smooth for PC. The combat is excellent with challenging bosses. There are amazing layers of taking apart and combining equipment to jury rig your own highly unique weapon via mix and match. The story is quite feasibly rather good and easier to follow than your typical Soulsborne. Telling the truth or lying dictating how quests and encounters play out is a really ambitious mechanic. And the game has one of THE most beautiful soundtracks I've heard in a video game. There's a lot to love about Lies of P as a love letter to Soulsborne but also as an imaginative reinterpretation of The Adventures of Pinocchio. If you love Soulsborne, if you love action games with polished combat, are a fan of steampunk, or are just looking for a game that will challenge your precision and skill this is an easy "buy this game and don't look back". There's a metric ton that feels very special and different about the vision present in this game.

But am I lying to you or am I telling you the truth? There's only one way to be sure. Book your trip to the City of Krat and play Lies of P!

A truly amazing game. And this is coming from a guy who thought they didn't even like souls like games. Everything in this game is just so well done from Music, Combat, Art direction, Atmosphere, enemy's and bosses. Also the story is incredibly touching and the characters are so well written. Also the voice acting is top tier.

I couldn't recommend this game enough and I can't wait for the DLC and Sequel.
