Sudden insane lag in multiplayer

I was hosting a multiplayer game with two friends just now and experienced multiple bouts of sudden crippling lag that never abated, destabilized the back end of the server (got an error message as such), requiring me to re-host. Is anyone else having these issues, and does anyone know of a fix?

This has been happening lately for us as well. Has been unplayable.

Yes the same thing happens to me, every time my friend have an unstable connection, for a second. It's just insane lag of unplayable frames. All my friends disconnect, cannot rejoin, me as a host have literally 5 fps non-stop, and the only thing to fix this either restart the host world or restart the game.
