So just before you get control of the point-and-click section you can comment as the internal voice that there's smoke coming from Milk-chans jacket. Which she promptly plays off and ignores to inspect the firefly.

I'm fairly confident of my interpretation of pretty much everything else that happens but I'm definitely lost as to the implications here. It's never acknowledged or brought up again and you'd be forgiven for thinking it was a translation mistake as it's a single line from the internal voices perspective, but as the rest of the translation is solid and everything seems very purposeful I'm left to assume this meant something. I considered some more literal interpretations but they feel out of place.

So, any ideas? I know there's a fair bit of subjective interpretation everyone can have with this game but I'd still like to hear some theories.
