Hello, I was wondering in order to get the good ending if you need to rescue ALL the mudokons or at least most of them?

Big fan of these games since the PS1 days and I'd love to achievement hunt Oddysee and Exodus here on Steam. I know the remake has them but i'm not interested in picking up the remake for this game just for achievement hunting, which is normally not an issue for me. While there certainly is some great additions in the remake like the updated visuals etc.. it's very obvious that the atmosphere that the original Abe's Oddysee has, has been pretty severely lost in the remake. during game startup, it doesn't let me play because its a 640 x type of resolution, i really want to play this game because it brings back memories. Someone help?
