FAR: Changing Tides.....in this case I would have to say that the reviews were right and most of them were maybe too kind but hey, they don't pay for games. I did buy this game with Denuvo ( more on that later ) so I will try to explain why I found this game very boring and repetitive.
I am a big fan of the first game so I was curious what this game has to offer. FAR: Changing Tides suffers from indie game sequel syndrome. It is bigger, longer, has fancy graphics and yet it fails to capture the magic of Lone Sails.
Lone Sails was focused on the journey and your machine and that combination was a success if you ask me. Changing Tides is trying too hard to impress. First of all you are controlling a ship, submarine, hot air balloon, some heavy machinery + the journey is broken by really boring and sometimes long puzzles and long periods of walking.
The puzzles are basic stuff really like in INSIDE. The first half of the game is full of these puzzles and I really wanted to sail in this game. In the 2nd half of the game I got what i wanted, less basic puzzles and more sailing.
The second part of the game is where the game fails because the sailing feels boring, even if you ignore your sails and use the motor the game is still too slow and bland. BTW you will still have to leave your boat and do some push the box and push few buttons puzzles. I thought the game couldn't be any slower but than I got the ability to turn my multi functional boat into a submarine........ok , I am confused now, I can't even describe how slow this thing is and how boring the sections are. So, the game play loop goes like this - control your boat, solve some basic puzzles (not on the boat), get upgrades so you can ride the submarine - solve more basic puzzles under water (you will have to leave your submarine of course) - sail for a long time and watch few extra long cut scenes- dive - sail - puzzles. Ok, you get the gist.
They chopped this game into so many pieces and that is the ultimate flaw of this game. Like I said, Lone Sails great game, Changing Tides very boring. They even included other people.....ok I am done with this review.
This game has Denuvo and my GPU was overheating like I was playing Metro Exodus. I really don't know why indie developers use this software when they made a name for themselves with the Lone Sails. Did this game sell better because of this best in class protection that tanks game performance ? Not a good look for small indie developer if you ask me.
If you liked Lone Sails there is a big chance you will find this game boring. I can't recommend this game.

It did not feel as hopeless as before.
