3 is ok, its gimmick is larger "war" maps. Its shorter than 2 and i dont like the cringe "cool kid" characters but you can still pick sorceress and max.
1 is the OG but its not co-op.
They should never have dropped max as the main character and tried to chase the hero arena trend lol but thats just my opinion.
Other games like this are sanctum and the newer sentry although neither are quite as polished as OMD2.
You almost have to feel sorry for all the people who will never get a chance to play OMDU. The only words I can use to describe it is better in every way to OMD3. I have been told there is a mod out there that allows people to still play OMDU (there are 2 people in game on the steamDB charts) I might give that a try if death trap doesnt work out.
If you just want to start with the best one, 2. It's got plenty of levels and the best variety of mechanics.
I dunno why people are bringing up Unchained, it's not terribly relevant, sadly.
3 is not great. Only reason I'm even considering picking it up is having already beat 1 and 2 multiple times.
