Better transmission algorithm
The engine RPM goes *UP* when you shift to a *HIGHER* gear, need I say more?
Clarification: This is In automatic mode

Low gear reduces RPM to almost idle while somehow providing maximum torque?

The only gears in this game that work correctly are Reverse and High

The same for Low.
The whole idea of low gear is to get high RPM, low speed.
The whole gearbox system is garbage... there isn't even analogue throttle control, it's just full throttle, low throttle and idle so you can't control RPM with the throttle as in mudrunner, you have to shift gears all the time...
Applying L- makes clear this is a limiter on wheel speed rather then multiplying torque what real Low Gear reduction gearboxes do.

For what is is worth Spintires and Mudrunner had that awkward mechanic too, and there is something to say for it as sometimes you need slower turning wheels to regain grip.

But it should not be done through reduction gear boxes that multiply torque, and multiplying torque is painfully missing from the game. Even though a truck stuck in A will get moving in L.

I think you mean "better gear sounds". Because there is no RPM in the game(not directly, anyway)

I thought the RPM gauge in the cabin view actually represented something

it works well with the controller, I do prefer key/mouse but it's handy to have one handy once you get to ice or cliffs where precision gas and braking are convenient.

Agree hate having to shift to the lower gears manually when it should just downshift in auto. Manual shifting would be great since I have a 8bitdo pro2 with the paddle buttons at the bottom, would be great to use them for up/down shifting

Someone came up with a hook dll and app to have a 'manual'. Due to the game's limitations it is far from flawless, but I do prefer it to the auto box. At least you can now coast in a higher gear, without the auto shifting back into 1st.

If you want to try it, experiment with
[SMGM]
DisableGameShifting=false or true
and see what you prefer.
