"Shrine II" is an okayish boomer shooter which, if this was a paid product, I'd really have to tell people not to bother. But it works, it's free, it effectively recreates the experience of playing DooM/Heretic etc... and I will say if you like this stuff there's a few rehashes of DooM on Steam but you have to pay money for those.

This features fairly low quality low poly 3D visuals which will deter a lot of gamers, understandably. I mean... you can see the screenshots. This is a boomer shooter. I guess it comes with the territory. Like I said, if this was a paid product it would fail on the graphics alone.

Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game.

Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable.

Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it?

Yes, believe it or not. While this is far from a perfect game, the deficiencies and drawbacks can be overlooked due to the zero up front price and the value you get out of it. It's greater than the sum of its parts, and worth downloading if you're a fan of this kind of gaming experience.
