I found you don't need to be good at chess to beat the more advanced ais, but you will want to do at least 1/8th of the puzzles to figure out how to checkmate/ not get mated. I'd try to master one piece at a time, with the queen prolly the easiest to score wins with against the beginner ai, if they make the wrong beginning move you get a free fool's mate.

You may have fun playing random people, I haven't had much luck finding games last time I checked. I did go to the discord for it I think and there's an elo for that and more discussion about tactics. Yet the people I used to watch play this game have moved on to infinite chess.
