Honest review:

The game play itself is amazing, so many different ways to travel, depending on your urgency, always new places to visit and find. The building mechanics is definitely a step up from 'The Forest' and the seasonal weather changes really add a nice change of pace to the game, forcing you as a player to adapt a different style of play.

Story: From the start, you aren't really pulled into the story like 'The Forest' where you had to rescue your son after the plane crash. Nothing is really said to keep you as a player invested in the story at all. It's all a mystery, and not the good kind. You may find yourself asking 'what the hell is going on' quite a lot. Don't get me started on the artefacts. They aren't labelled 1,2,3...etc - So if you were like me just stumbling into caves for an adventure, you need to make sure which ones you have collected and make sure to search every area of the caves because if you miss one, be prepared to go into the caves all over again in search for the one missing piece of the artefact which you can't even number if you wanted to be logical!!

So - you have completed the caves, and gone through with the final part of the story where you get to pick to leave the island or stay. The entire time I had more questions, felt more disappointment. I think it would have been a better game without the cryptic story line in all honesty.

This is pretty much the best a survival game can get.
The game drops you onto a cannibal and mutant infested island and gives you the complete freedom to do whatever you'd like. It can be pretty tough at times, but you are able to customize your difficulty in whatever way makes it a more enjoyable experience for you. You can change enemy health, how much damage, indestructible structures, and tons more.

The graphics are beautiful, and the attention to detail is top tier.
The seasons change. Summer is bright, green and lush until you get to slowly see the leaves change color, Certain crops stop growing and eventually snow begins to fall. You leave a path in the snow where you walk. Freshwater lakes freeze. The amount of small, more obscure realistic physics I noticed while playing was amazing. It really feels like the devs thought of even the tiny things that don't matter much but increase the immersion a ton.

The story is optional.
If you just wanna survive on the island forever, build a massive base, you can do that. However, I found uncovering all the clues and the mystery extremely exciting and interesting, especially after playing the original The Forest.

If I had to make one complaint, although a very minor one - it would be that certain, small areas of the map feel a bit empty. But this is contrasted by the amount of things to do, and other portions of the map that are very well done and fleshed-out. So trust me, do not let this deter you from playing the game as this is simply me just nitpicking.

There are very few survival games who knock it out of the park the way Endnight Games does.
I have a lot of trust in them, and am really hoping for a 3rd installment of this series. This has easily become my favorite survival game, and easily in my top 10 games of all time. It's just a must-have experience for gamers. Very much worth the purchase.
