I'm a huge fan of the Hello Neighbor series, and in my opinion, HN2 is the best game in the franchise.
I've had a ton of fun with it and really enjoy it. The characters are interesting, the environments look great, and overall, the game is visually stunning. But, none of this makes up for the lack of content.

After Patch 9, things were really starting to look up for HN2 and its story, as well as its character development with the main protagonist. After Patch 9, fans like me were immediately hooked, and wanted to see more come from the story (specifically with the cult teased in Patch 9). And we were told that more would be coming, in Patch 10. Fast forward to one year later, and we still don't have Patch 10.

Normally, I'd be completely fine waiting. Game development isn't easy and communication between a team developing a video game can be difficult, which I completely understand. My problem is that we were being told that Patch 10 was, in fact, being developed. Of course, me and other fans were excited and patient for updates, but nothing came after an entire year. Still, I had no doubts that we would be getting Patch 10 since tinyBuild was telling us that the devs were "cooking".

Recently, it was announced that all updates on HN2 would be cancelled in favour of developing HN3. As a huge fan of the series, specifically HN2, this was extremely upsetting. HN2 is an unfinished game, yes, but it has a TON of potential. In Patch 9, elements from the books were being added and teased, which as a big fan of the books, was great and really exciting. Still, the game was unfinished. A lot of people have problems with the gameplay itself, but personally, I really enjoy it. The problem for me was that the story was left unfinished. Not on a cliffhanger, but outright unfinished. The game straight up tells us to expect more updates in the future and that the story isn't finished.

I was looking forward to seeing the story go further, only for it to be cancelled. Even at that, there wasn't much of a story to HN2 in the first place. There were interesting plot points and characters, but really, nothing was done with them. I worry that Quentin's story won't be finished in HN3 and that all of his character development (not much) will be put to waste. HN3 seems like it'll be a huge time skip in the story, which is why I worry so much for Quentin being scrapped.

After HN2's cancellation and the fact that fans were lied to for the past year, being promised a huge update that would never happen, I find it difficult to trust tinyBuild and be interested in HN3's development. Don't get me wrong, I love the look and idea of HN3, I just think that HN2 should've been finished before the team moved onto developing HN3.

Overall, Hello Neighbor 2 is a great concept, playing the role of a journalist in a town riddled with secrets, but was executed very poorly in almost every aspect other than its visuals. If you want a good story involving the cult and Mr. Peterson, read the books. Don't bother with this game, since you won't get anything out of it story-wise.

I cannot recommend this game, this is a $40/$60 game that can be beaten in 2/3 hours. The developers gave up on the game so they can make another sequel, Hello Neighbor 3. They abandon it and are no longer updating it to make up for the short playtime and continuing the story after a lazy cliffhanger since launch. Don't buy this game.

Its just not worth it, It's an unfinished and directionless game.
