Before the Storm is a good game, basically. If you liked Chloe and were particularly invested in her and her background in the first game, you'll certainly get a lot of out of this prequel, and it provides a lot more depth and context to a character who I felt could be a little one-note at times. Chloe's lack of powers results in a smaller, more grounded story that's centered entirely around Rachel Amber and the connection she and Chloe cultivate at a time where Rachel's life is in upheaval and Chloe is developing into the girl you meet in the first game, and the tighter, narrower focus of the story here really helps to endear you to the two of them. It's sweet to see, even if it feels a little fast when you think about the game's short span of time. I don't really mind that Chloe's not voiced by Ashly Burch, either, though I certainly felt like Rhianna DeVries was trying a little too hard to make Chloe sound like a troubled, angry delinquent when her voice isn't quite suited to it.

The problem really comes from this remaster, though. I don't understand why, but while the first game's remaster had no technical issues whatsoever, this game feels like a real mess. The subtitles are disastrous, regularly not advancing past the first line, not showing up at all, or, worst of all, getting completely stuck on one line and staying on screen, to the point where I had to restart the game to fix it. The visual bugs aren't as prominent, but still annoying, and I also had audio issues right from the beginning of the game. You might not think that subtitle issues are enough to sink a title, but for a game where the dialogue is basically the whole point, AND where there are audio issues to go along with the subtitle issues, it became an extremely frustrating and deeply distracting issue. Tying the two remasters into one package and not allowing you to buy them separately so that you can avoid this one is stupid, and it makes me want to not recommend the entire package as a result.

Basically, this is a good game, and a bad remaster. Just play the original version instead.

Quando c'è stata la possibilità di baciare Rachel ho scelto di non farlo perché ho pensato potesse essere una scelta azzardata, questo vi può far capire come io possa vivere la mia vita considerando che si tratta di un gioco.
Quindi compratelo e impariamo a buttarci di più perché la vita è una sola e vale la pena provare emozioni.

Not as good as the first one. Just finished episode two and Rachel and Chloe have a very different dynamic to Max and Chloe however I feel like the gimmick of Backtalk isn't as essential to gameplay as the rewind mechanic that LIS relied on.
