There are gameplay tweaks, they are not that major however; Features of UNITE which would be considered directly "unfair" by most people wouldn't work in multiplayer anyway generally speaking. UNITE has become quite big and its undergone lots of work from an actual proper team so... you can use the mod, you're in safe hands because the dev team consider people's suggestions and the vanilla version of the game really disappoints and is a bad representation of frosbite's graphical capabilities, especially with that horrendous filter. UNITE gets rid of that, adds improved reflections and other tweaks which elevate the game a little further both visually and gameplay-wise. You could argue that it comes down to where you draw the line morality-wise when modding games but my opinion on this is do what you want, you own the game and it really isnt a big deal.
