Considering purchasing, want to know game details
I'm thinking about picking up this game for ~$13, but I don't know what kind of game it is outside of the basic details. Can someone with experience give me the scoop?

I played through Resident Evil Village, but didn't care too much for it. It felt very 'on rails'. They call it a survival horror game but it's not. Dead Space is also called survival horror, but it's action horror. I like Dead Space though because the combat and atmosphere is very good. Gnarly monsters and cool weapons and such.

I have not played The Last Of Us.

idk why people compare this to tlou they are completely different games

there are no rails here, sections of the map are locked until you progress the story but it is far from inhibiting.

if you like open world games with full freedom and a variety of weapons and combat styles this is a good pick. NG+ is viable with carried over upgrades and perks too.

the only reason i dont own it on pc is because for some odd reason i get headaches which never happened on the ps5. probably the high fps or smth idk. not worth the migraine trying to figure it out

You get stronger and get unlock weapons that can clear out hordes, theres bunch of cutscenes going on about how mc and his wife were weird but good match, exploration isnt really worth it unless you want to complete bunch of achievements, just doing missions will make you go to most locations on map.

Main fun part for me was taking out massive hordes and they get pretty exciting later on especially. Trying out different weapons was fun and there are plenty of those. The motorcycle is a bit too slow for my taste but the world isnt massive enough that it makes you feel sluggish.

Missions can get repetitive if you dont like the combat since lots of them are just clearing out camps of rapists and murderers. You can also just skip side stuff and focus on main quest but you might miss out on unlocking weapons for taking on big hordes.

Overall really fun game and exciting combat where you just dont have the bullets and rate of fire to stand your ground against hordes.

Vast, open world with different biomes deflecting weather. Shooting and looting, finding protagonist wife. You would like it.
It's a story game. Open world setting, lots of collectables, a lot of side missions, a lot of story missions. The story missions have to be done to progress the game. But there is no particular set order.
There are game trailers on Youtube. There are also plenty of 'How To ' videos on there as well. Spawnicus Rex, Borislav 247, the rad brad, all do completely styles of how to vids. Check a few from each of them out.
There's also a pod cast, intebrviews with major players in the games develoipment, actors who played the parts and various people who have done how to vids.

Open world, linear at only certain points
Hordes scattered around with different zombie types
Bike is customizable and upgradable but will run out of gas
PLENTY of guns, throwables and melee weapons to choose from
Story is a decent size with minor quests and challenges on the side
Lots of camps to visit offering different weapons and bike upgrades
And a separate challenge mode where you can unlock different characters, participate in speedrun races and survive zombies with a countdown

I 100%d it on console and getting around to playing more of it on PC

at $13 it's a no brainer.

Phenomenal game with a great story that is exceptionally beautiful if you have the hardware to run it on high/ultra.

Buy with confidence. Even if you end up not enjoying it...it was $13? My lunches cost $13.

Did you pick it up while it was on sale? It's an incredible game and a steal at that price. I bought it on the recent sale and have been playing it constantly ever since.

The map management and in-game interfaces reminded me a lot of Ghost Recon Breakpoint, and the open-world aspect is similar as well.

I had it in my wishlist for quite some time and I'm so glad I finally pulled the trigger. Would recommend to anyone who likes a good story and open-world questing.

One of my favorites ever. Great stealth and lots of weapons and stuff for massacring zombies and other ne'er-do-wells. The bike driving is fun, and the gasoline mechanic is cool, even if it means you might have to walk a bit sometimes. Getting good with the crossbow is very satisfying.

In fact, now y'all have convinced me to re-install it and play thru it again!

Just beat the game 60 hrs in almost everything done. its worth every penny
It's a very similar to Mad Max but in forests and mountains and riding a bike as the magnum opus.

Mad max is too tedious and monotonous compared to this. Overall a way better game than mad max. And Mad Max main plot sucks.

This game changes depending on how far you are into the story/progression with the camps.

Early on, you are broke and have no good guns and ammo is scarce. You play it stealthily to conserve ammo and such--fighting more than 5-6 freakers is troublesome. Later on, the game evolves and you are capable of taking on hordes of up to 300 freakers.

I do see the comparison to the last of us. People are probably remembering days gone in its latter half where it's practically a shooter vs a stealth game.

Last of us involved you ducking into cover and picking your targets wisely to conserve ammo and also scavenging around. Just like Days Gone.

The Last of Us you mention is much slower and more survival horror oriented. You tend to focus on stealth and smaller skirmishes most of the time aside from a few gunfights with humans. That said, if you really want a survival horror check out Alien Isolation.

This game is a mix of survival and action. Less horror and more survival/action. Horde fights are loud and they're not methodical necessarily. They're run, gun, throw as you have an overwhelming number of mobs (typically 50-300) chasing you down. For smaller scale encounters you are either stealthing or basic shooting. There isn't a bunch of sprinting or crazy melee swinging going on so it is more of a cover shooting combat when against humans and running shooting (or shooting and killing before gets to you) zombies. Resource gathering is a big part of the game and you can craft various tools and stuff to use as you play to cope with different situations. You can melee but it simply isn't efficient resource wise until near the end of the game. Melee was extremely poorly implemented here, but stealth works great. The game is very story focused like The Last of Us but not linear like Last of Us and far more open in environmental traversal. However, mission progress and area unlocking is still technically very linear despite the large open world that unlocks in segments.
