Teardown is a voxel sandbox/heist destruction game, where you take the role of some guy partaking in both police investigations as well as furthering his/her demolition company. It should be immediately emphasized that this game may not be what people expect. This game has objectives, it has goals, and it technically has a storyline. Because of this, some, like me, may be thrown off that the storyline is primarily a HEIST game than a voxel destruction game. You are scored based on how quickly and efficiently you press certain buttons in order, or get certain objects/vehicles to a destinations. The game will even track your route at the end of each level, so you can evaluate a more optimal path. That is the intended and core gameplay of the campaign, at least on the surface. Eventually you will also try to avoid robot sentries and a helicopter sniper, but the gameplay loop is still the same: press buttons quickly and complete the mission.

This leads to the question: what about the destruction aspect? Yes, there is voxel destruction, but it is only a goal on specific levels. Because otherwise you would be using the unique destruction mechanics to speed up your heist; you really don't have time to mess around during those missions. There is still a sandbox mode where you can destroy to your heart's content when you beat the campaign, which is designed to test the game's engine. It almost feels like a conflict of ideas. Does this game want to be a destruction game, or does it want to be a time-based puzzle game?

When it comes to the heists, it can be riveting to pull everything off in quick succession, but it can also be irritating to have to repeat things because of that time limit, which occasionally seemed to be a bit too short with no option for difficulty adjustments. Again, I say this because of the conflict of ideas (ask yourself, what type of genre are you buying this game for?). When it comes to the destruction, everything is usually destructible with wiggle room. It can be immensely satisfying. With full workshop support, it can be even more satisfying, and honestly it feels like the workshop is the game's crutch and why it has a higher rating than it does. I should note that performance issues are abundant when it comes to the destruction mechanics in the game. I would normally just blame my system, but since I'm apparently not alone I think poor optimization (again, the developer seemed to more want a heist game than a destruction game) is in part to blame.

• To say the engine and artsyle isn't a draw is a crime. It's unique, looks handcrafted, and a joy to play around in (when you're actually able to).
  
• When it comes to the heists, you're given tools on how to uniquely solve the problem, making you feel immensely satisfied for pulling something off quickly and efficiently.
  
• When it comes to destruction, the voxel mechanics are unparalleled. Everything can be broken down piece by piece.
  
• I really liked the robots when they were added, they were fun to play around with.
  
• Enough unique environments to prevent the game from feeling dull.
  
• Voxel water.

• Conflicting ideas on whether the game wants to be a heist game or a sandbox destruction game, leads to poor optimization of both.
  
• Atrocious if not game-breaking lag if voxel destruction gets too much for the engine to handle, on low settings, even on a fairly decent computer.
  
• On the heist missions, you'll find yourself not taking advantage of destruction mechanics, the main draw of the game, instead relying on movement.
  
• The destruction missions felt like filler for the heist missions, as if to "dangle to keys" to keep you going so you can unlock everything for sandbox mode.
  
• I normally do not like to criticize the story of these types of games, but when it causes the final mission of the game to be worse than the first mission of the game, that's usually not a good thing.

Teardown is an amazing game with great graphics and awesome physics, very fun to play and combined with very easy modding, this game never gets boring.
