Its possible that he also gets moves when some stuff, like elixirs(?) or time card attacks are used. Escha to logy had a similar boss so I could also just be remembering stuff from that one, heh.
Only I really remember for sure is that he was a difficult fight, and iirc you have to try and kill him fast or something~
Dont even remember how Variable strikes worked. Hmm, according to the help menu it activates if you use three assist attacks in a row, and the third of those will then be the Variable Strike. Its only usable during boost?
Was that boss optional? Max level for the game is 99ish orso, so if you arent restricted to doing it now you could level up more? Looking through my saves, I started chapter 9 around lvl 60 and ended up at 80. Dont remember how much I grinded.
Acorrding to the game's encyclopedia, its a lvl 80 boss, same as the beast king that I confused it with. Which is higher level then the optional dragon fight on the boat (fran Pfeil), or the water bird thingy. In comparison the optional water bird thingy (phoenix of the sea) is only lvl 75 and I recall that one was one of the hardest bosses around together with Beast King and Fran Pfeil, and I guess the prototypes.
Iirc you could farm some better traits off some of the bosses as well to craft stronger equipment before fighting it. Not sure whats available to you at this point tho.
Remember to use the Growth system for more bonus stats too~
