Trying to do the tie down glinthawk challenge
Damn glinthawk keeps flying up to where the merchant is. Getting frustrated.

Ah yes, the Glinthawks at the Greatrun Hunting Grounds can get a bit annoying. For the Tie Down Trial I find it best to run across the grounds to get closer to where the Glinthawks sit up on the cliffs. Lure one close enough so that, once it's in range, you can hit it with a rope (use either a Carja or Shadow Ropecaster) to bring it down and then put another couple of ropes into it so that you can then do a Critical Strike to finish it off. Don't loot anything yet, that will help to lure other Glinthawks down. Rinse and repeat twice more to complete the Trial. Once you've completed the Trial you can then go round and loot everything.

If you're trying to complete this Trial with a basic Ropecaster you'll have problems because it's not strong enough to use on Glinthawks. You need to use a Carja Ropecaster, or better yet, either a Shadow Ropecaster or the Lodge Ropecaster.

Remember, or consider for the first time, the challenges (and that one in particular) are trying to get you to think differently. You have rope casters, you have long and short range weapons, but as Grizzly said ^^^ grabbing loot first thing is not a guarantee of success.

If it is a struggle, leave. Get stronger, upgrade past basic gear, then try again.
IMO, if you do all the challenges as you come to them, you will pretty OP by the time you cross over into Sun Crazy Land.

Good Luck
I got it. I had two major issues. 1 the glinthawk kept flying away. 2 the game would not give the critical hit notice. I had to run back and forth around the glinthawk. many times by the time I got one the tramplers were on me.

My issue was never strength, I was level 26 before I ever left The Embrace. My issue was the glinthawk flying up on the cliff instead of focusing on me. Also, when roping one down, or anything really, the game is stingy with the critical hit prompt.

And, imho, it seems that you're almost evading to actually answer the question. Did you have at least "Blue" or the even better "Purple" RopeCaster when you started that Hunting Grounds side quest? I've always placed a errands for me to acquire the better classes of equiqment whenever I came across those upon Merchants. And, if remembering right, there was such a sort of Merchant around the 1st Carja border town you've got into (i.e., the one atop separating kingdoms wall fortress) right after defeating Corruptors and some other machines that were attacking it as a main quest of yours.

Also when I did that quest, as I usually did when playing HZD, I've always had the TripCaster on "2" key weapons 'speed dia'l to keep pests such as Tramplers at bay for a little longer when needing for that to occur. :winter2019happybulb: But that's just an eventual advice for you to decide if you're: 1 following it; 2 addapt it to your own needs / play style; or 3 to discard it completelly.

yes. Carja RopeCaster. I could have had God's Golden Angel blessed Ropecaster and it would not have helped me. The Glinthawk kept flying up to the top of the cliff, out of site, about where the merchant is sitting. Then, once I did tie it down the I had to constantly move around to get the Critical Hit strike.
