I have enjoyed playing (currently free) Beneath a Steel Sky (BASS1) for its great atmosphere, and bought this sequel (BASS2) to get more of that.

And it was worth it. The atmosphere in BASS2 is similar as in BASS1: cyberpunk world, jokes, various easter eggs. The story is very interesting, and a great continuation of how BASS1 ended. It is quite sad that this game is not more popular.

I see the other reviews dislike the 3D graphics. I am not a fan of 3D graphics in general, I think they are fine here (other than some ugly human models), but probably using 2D as in BASS1 and other classic point-and-click adventures would be better, due to lower development costs.

Nothing you haven’t seen before in terms of writing and world-building, but Beyond a Steel Sky is still brilliant. I loved the comedic tone and the dialogues. Your character embarks on an adventure after a child is kidnapped from their community. He’s an outlander in the city where he must find the kid—a city controlled by a council divided into:
Minister of Wellbeing: Oversees the health and happiness of the citizens.
Minister of Comfort: Ensures the comfort and satisfaction of the populace.
Minister of Plenty: Manages resources and sustenance—food, etc.
Minister of Aspiration: Encourages ambition and personal growth (think *Black Mirror*, Season 3, Episode 1, Nosedive).
Minister of Safety: Maintains law and order within the city.

At first, these roles sound great, but they’re merely illusions that enslave people and confine them in the borders of the city, turning them into "pets" rather than normal human beings. It was really fun to explore this "perfect utopian" city.

After the main plot ends,—saving the children—the last act was very satisfying in tying the governing plot together. The Hollywood-style ending was a perfect fit for the goofy, fun tone, imo. I love exploring the question of "What makes us human?" and Beyond a Steel Sky hits just the right spot.

Gameplay-wise, it’s a classic puzzle-solving, “work with whatever is around you” type of game. The puzzles aren’t too complicated, and the small map designs help keep things from getting boring. The graphics, odd NPC movements, and occasional animation issues can pull you out of the moment, but overall, it’s a good ride.

TLDR;
I only recommend this game to people who are fans of the Beneath a Steel Sky. While it was overall enjoyable as a fan, it is quite flawed.

Being a long time fan of Point and clicks I was thrilled when I heard about this sequel to Beneath a Steel Sky. Unfortunately, I was somewhat let down. Mainly by the game being so short but, several other things bothered me as well. Twice the game glitched so that, if I happened to be in an area that wasn't exactly where I needed to be, characters would say things that spoiled the story(dialogue from the next time you would've been there). One was a huge spoiler that basically ruined most of the ending.

Graphics: 4/5
I really enjoyed the stylized graphics and I felt the city design was cool. Too bad you don't really get to explore any of it. You are limited to only a few(and some are rather drab) areas. The views were nice though!

Sound: 4/5
The music in this game was good. Very much what you would expect from a space fantasy show or movie. The voice acting was great as well. Score, Voice acting and graphics really saved this game for me. I just wished fosters steps made just a bit more sound and also changed sounds depending on the surface he's walking on.

Story: 3/5
While I found the concept of the story to be decent. It wasn't exactly original and it did play out well at all IMO. The beginning and the end were fine, but everything in between seemed quite flat and often forced. Frequently it felt like things were being said or done as an excuse to get to the next part of the story. I did very much enjoy some of the characters but those were the characters you interact with the least. In fact, I felt character interaction overall was fairly limited.

Gameplay: 2/5
This is where it really drops for me. If the story and gameplay in a Point and Click aren't absolutely top... well, that's kind of the whole game. Controls were very often clunky, unintuitive, and sometimes outright frustrating. I didn't enjoy most of the puzzles. Once again many of them felt forced and pointless. Like I was being lead by the nose the entire game. I'm at a loss for a word more potent than linear to describe how little you can do, say, or explore in this city and, because of this, I never really felt immersed.

Score: 13/20 Only recommending for fans and because I would like to see more games like this but with some improvements
