American Beetle's explanation is dead on, but also the stats are explained in game by an NPC next to the second Biomass Workstation you will find, in South Tower Peak. You're right though, I do at some point want to add some extra helper info from the menus, including stat explanation.
that would be great.
dont take this the worng way but if the skills doesn't do anything else than what American Beetle said what is the purpose of calling it ''tech skill'' instead of just calling it ''melee skill'' or something more obvious? iam asking just out of curisoity so don't take it as a criticism.
how would that be silly? its a number that shows how good your character are at melee combat. As it was in the menu "tech skill" makes it sound like it has to something to do with technology, not melee comabat.
immersion is good to have in games but you should make sure you fill the player in on whats what, especially when the player is presented with a choice.
That NPC shows up early enough that I didn't lose trust in the game designer, but with the unusual names of the states it is not really useful to be able to upgrade them before you know what they are.
The game starts at a steep difficulty curve, relative to other games. You die fast and stat upgrades are very expensive. I held off on making any upgrades until I found an explanation. That said, I could have looked it up online and didn't feel the need to.
