This game is flawed but ended up being one of my favorite games.
I never played the Nier games. More of a FF player.
Just played this after FF16. It's definitely a flawed game (tiny open world, kind of lame menus & navigation, quests are basically go to point A - B and back to A over and over again, and DONT GET ME STARTED ON THE ABSURD TROPHY COMPLETION FARMING).

However its such an enjoyable game. I ended up putting in 60+ hours and getting all the endings. I honestly think that the vibe of the story, the tragedy of it all, the character design, and the MUSIC, literally carried me for 60 hours+. I would continue to get the platinum (weapons grinding) but its just going into the factory over and over to get materials randomly, I just don't see myself spending 10+ hours doing that.

But other than that, it's weird because its such a flawed limited game, but the music & characters make it so kino/relaxing. It's literally nothing to be amazed of in terms of gameplay or design, it's even bad at times (quests), but its still a 10/10 game for some reason.

I will play Nier Automata next. But honestly Yoko Taro in my mind has been cemented as a great game director/designer/whatever. NieR is as much a solid franchise for Square Enix as FF.

I would really like a remake/reboot of Drakengard (or a new IP) to come from Yoko Taro though. I think above all, the PHILOSOPHICAL THEMES in the story coupled with the music is what makes the NieR games so powerful. They're EVOCATIVE games. They make you THINK.

How many games stimulate your imagination and thinking like that?

Some of the square enix games are very successful in this respect. But I can't say the same for the others and especially the new ones.

Yoko Taro yes, he has very good games with nier but he doesn't have any other games or works. I find him lazy. People shouldn't produce one work and disappear. I hope he produces a few more good works before he dies because the number of people in his vision is really very few.

Today's games are very colorful and a lot of DEI elements are added by force. I don't like these. It kills the art style in games. The nier series is a great game with a unique art style. I'm very afraid that black colored niers will be made. I hope they go back to the old vision and continue to do great things.

And very few games these days DARE tackle very intellectual or shocking topics. Existentialism, racism, discrimination, etc. Most companies would rather make pure gameplay games, where you shoot things, or souls games, etc. Don't get me wrong, I like those games. But when you come across deep games like the NieR franchise, you just feel like you need more of these games.

NieR reminded me in a way of Zelda, just way more mature obviously in terms of themes.
But still a beautiful evocative story.

I'm going to play an Atlus game next (Metaphor Refantazio) and I hear Atlus games are also very cool in that regard.

I had the chance to watch this game and it looks like it will be a very good game. The demo of this game lets you play for a very long time. Good choice
