Automata, easily. Replicant feels like an early attempt at Automata.

As an add to above the side quests in Replicant are very grindy. Just look at the other recent thread about seeds.

Yeah, plus a lot of them are permanently missable/incompletable. Same with other things like weapons, words and documents. Even some tutorials are missable because they are random enemy drops for some reason.
To my knowledge, the only missable in Automata is ending Y.

Yes and no. For those of us who like the level design of the 2000s, this game is a marvel of begone times like few others.

The game is pretty short and the few areas in the game aren't that big.

The fighting is very repetitive. Automata is also guilty of this, with the core gameplay being the same (Weiss/Pod, hack and slash with weapon choices, words/chips, etc.), but is way more refined.

Automata has hacking and flying sections.

Both have similar characters, themes, bosses, etc. but Automata has more and is better refined.

To be fair, I only have ending A so far in Replicant. However, ginding out missable quests and clearing the story has been pretty boring. The gameplay won't get any better at this point and my expectations for the remaining quests are low. I'm only playing for the story at this point, which has been quite minimal so far.

Some of Replicant's issues can be blamed on older software/hardware limitations, but there's no excuse for the boring sidequests and permanently missable items (some of which are needed for game endings).

Don't even get me started on the gardening and fishing minigames that have to be solved through trial-and-error without a guide.

Only if it significantly improves after ending A. It's been pretty short so far. :winter2019tiredyul:

Every ending adds something significant to the story. The gameplay in between those parts is meh.

I don't agree with a single word of what you've said lol. Like i said this is game design from the 2000's for those who miss it, take or leave it.
These days Eldenring supposedly is the pinnacle of modern gaming and or me its a pile of pure steaming sh*t. And talk about no story.
Automata has better pace and bigger maps ofc because its a complete different dev team with a 7 year gap for a far better console. I don't think anyone disputes that. The rest is subjective.

Nier released in 2010 on the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. Regardless of the time period, not every game in a period plays the same.

Ōkami has some similarities to Replicant. It was released in 2006 on the Playstation 2 and Wii.
It's a much longer game, with many large areas and dungeons that don't feel empty. There's more gameplay variety, enemy variety, many varied sidequests, nothing is missable, Etc.

If this was a remake instead of a remaster, I think it could have been a lot better. It hasn't aged well.

If you liked Automata and want more of a pretty good story, play it. Just beware that if you are a completionist, stay far away from this nightmare of grind.

Many of the materials to upgrade your weapons are an absurd grind. You actually do not need to upgrade them fully as none of the enemies really require it, but many gamers like to finish everything.

RNG check 1: Many mats are obtained from low/rare spawn enemies.
RNG Check 2: Sometimes they leave a drop, sometimes there is not a drop.
RNG check 3: IF there is a drop, that it is a rare drop
RNG check 4: IF it is rare, is it the right item or is it just something to sell for gold?

Some of the ones that go through this many RNG checks you need 5 or more of and will spend hours on attempts with not a single success.

Does this game also has the schtick that the most interesting end requires all weapons to be fully upgraded?
SushiJaguar 2022년 9월 5일 오후 1시 50분
None of Yoko Taro's games require all weapons upgraded to see the most interesting ending. None of Taro's games require it to see any "proper" ending. The only time you need to upgrade all weapons is in Automata for Ending Y, which is a joke ending.
Exarch_Alpha 2022년 9월 6일 오전 10시 32분
Ending Y is not a joke. It´s the hardest fight in the game apart from the colosseum. And if you fail it´s the end of the world.

On the other hand the real final boss is a joke in Automata even in hard.
SushiJaguar 2022년 9월 6일 오후 5시 58분
Whether it's difficult or not does not make it a joke ending. The UFO endings in the Silent Hill series are the hardest to obtain, but they are joke endings. The fact remain that, whether or not you want to jerk off about how tough it is, Ending Y is a joke ending. It's not a serious ending to the story of Automata, nor is it even the most interesting.
