I have mixed feelings about this game. Having a hard time not rating Yakuza 5 negative because it's a ''meh'' game at most.

Yet another filler game after Yakuza 4.

You get to play as Kazuma Kiryu, Haruka Sawamura, Shun Akiyama, Taiga Saejima and Tatsuo Shinada. Apart from Kiryu and Haruka I really have little to no interest in rest of the side characters. I felt so frustrated playing other characters' stories because it pulls the player from the main storyline. Now of course one could argue that side characters are a part of the main storyline, but they could very well be excluded from the main storyline and the game still would achieve telling its main storyline successfully.

To me, plot seems weak and story telling is done poorly on Yakuza 5. Saejima's city exploration and errands works, Shinada's city exploration and errand works could very well be excluded from the game because the game is unneccessarily stretched at least +20-30 hours in length. Is that a bad thing? Yes, if the content is recycled boring errand work in each character's episode.

These aside, the character dialogues are unnecessarily too long (10-15 mins in-game talks) and repetitive and then comes the 15 minutes (average) cutscenes after each part/chapter completion. Good luck not losing your mind. You can't even save your game before you are free in the free roam.

My favorite are Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2. After these games, Yakuza 3-4-5 seem very poorly done. These are filler games at best. I was seeking for an amazing story but I am just disappointed.

For anyone looking to enjoy Yakuza series, I'd recommend playing Yakuza 0, Kiwami and Kiwami 2. Those are the golden games of the series.

ps3 era peak the game with the most and best content, great story that should have been the end of many characters arcs. pure cinema never beaten
