Horses are cooler.

Cars need gas and depending on settings that can be limited. Horses if have areas to graze be ok. Though better to include actual feed.

I think the devs mentioned adding horses at one point if I remember correctly

Yeah but you can farm horse gas
You can't farm car gas

Another good point is a horse is quieter. So wont draw zombies as bad as a car will.

Depends on type of shoe. Also can muffle them. And can ride on dirt instead of roads for part of it.
EDIT - Also to add... My horses were not loud when on roads. Buggers got out of their pasture few times and had to walk them down the road back home. And the sound was no where as loud as cars.

Of course there is a point, car needs gasoline and battery charge, horse needs food and water, car needs mechanical maintenance, horse needs regular care. Horses could reach places cars can't, attract less unwanted attention, allow you to travel more cost efficiently. On the other hand they might have their own problems, like getting scared of a zombie and throwing you off its back, getting bitten and dying and so on.
Horses would definitely add a lot to the base gameplay loop and with how farm animals work now it would fit right in.

Wish could at times though lol Damn nissan titan key got lost and cant get replacement as closes place is over hour and half away :-/ wish could breed darn thing so could drive truck again lol

One can hope they've considered it. eventually the cars shouldn't function and if they want us smithing weapons and armor, horses should be on the list to substitute them. it's about the only thing id be happy about involving the animal system.
