We would like to share with you an update and the decision to move on from Overstep. While we haven’t fully announced the new title yet, we do want to share an opportunity with you to help in the evolution of team-based, acrobatic, and adrenaline-fueled action.

We have shifted all efforts to an expanded and enhanced experience called Contenders: Arena and we would love to invite you to a closed playtest that is running from Friday, July 14 through Sunday, July 16. If you liked Overstep, you are going to love all of the improvements in Contenders: Arena.

Year One Update - patch notes! + TRAILER!

We can't believe it's already been a year since we launched Overstep on Steam Early Access. It has been a year full of hard work, new experiences and it's been awesome to meet our players from all over the globe!

Your feedback has been the secret weapon for traversing the land of iteration and dilemmas, from rail grind speeds to map sizes. It's like you're a part of the team - we couldn't be happier about it!

FEATURES AND CONTENT:

New in-game currency: Credits
Earn credits by playing matches
Skins can be purchased by Credits, except for Legendaries which remain OB-Only
Adding a selection of Nationality based skins
Customizable avatars and banners
Skins now show on Trials and HUB
Combat Tutorial Level
Two new trial levels: Processing Plant and Launch Control
Trial Times - Personal Records
First version of the HUB
Text Chat
New competitive level: Atlas
2 New weapons: Hailstorm, and Meltdown

IPROVEMENTS:

Improved lobby lighting
Music during lobby screen
Fixed and brought back Gauss Gun
Adjust the PLAY menu layout to welcome the HUB
Tens of new and improved sound effects
Online elements now working for offline levels (i.e. weapons on the HUB level)
Option to configure the keys to use abilities

BUG FIXES:

Missing SFX on "continue" button at purchase screen
Trial HUD is covering a part of the settings menu while in Trials
Sound Effects volume slider not updating orb collection volume
Volume sliders do not affect certain character SFX
Camera shoulder setting doesn't work
Windowed fullscreen doesn't work. Looks like normal fullscreen.
Changing the quality settings and hitting apply sometimes doesn't save the settings
Escape doesn't take you back a step in the in-match menu.
In the settings menu. When Quality is not set to Custom, the individual Quality settings are greyed out. This is confusing some players who try to change the individual settings and not being able to do so.
When using the lowest resolution value, texts on the loadout menu become off-centered and the matchmaking menu is almost unusable.
Infinite running when pressing ESC during a match
CTF mode; the Flag stays in water in Resort
If you enter matchmaking and choose the Overstep Classic game mode. You sometimes get client-side flags that can't be interacted with.
Weapons with splash damage do double damage
Dead characters have no ragdoll behavior at all. The game still has the old dying animation.
In the settings menu, using ‘reset to default’ reverts all settings to default, except for the resolution setting.
Pressing F2 in Trials mode breaks it
In the main menu, you can click on the friends and settings icons but only on the very top edge of their icons.
Parties permanently block Trials mode, until restarting the game
In the main menu, the platform meshes that the robots stand on have a gap between the top and the sides, allowing you to see a bit of the background through the platform.
Heat mode doesn’t register kills/deaths count
Blank widget avatar when not party host
CTF flags are present in other game modes in the resort map
Fixed inconsistency of skin rarity color between skins shop list and skin purchase popup
Colored the skin labels by rarity on the store.
Skin store sorts skins by rarity, corporation then, and finally name.
Solved issue with the flag in robot's back not being replicated if players are too far from each other
One of the party members doesn't travel to lobby upon successful match found

FEATURES:

Added the option to start MATCHMAKING DURING A TRIALS MATCH!
(access in-match menu to trigger it!)
Added rag-doll behaviour on death.
Added hit vignettes and sounds to the abilities.

IMPROVEMENTS:

Added Orion Bonds to the top menu bar.
Decreased the volume of certain menu buttons.
If an opponent dies via arena hazards or the Kill-Z within 3 seconds of you shooting them, you will now be awarded the kill.
Improvements to drone VFX.
Added support to the display settings screen, so attempting to change graphics quality will automatically switch the quality preset to Custom.
Improved the matchmaking status widget and added marquee animation to 'searching'.
Bound shortcut keys to in-match matchmaking widget.
Added feedback to the main 'Play' button so it becomes clearer that it can be pressed while matchmaking.

BUG FIXES:

Updated Blur and Ghost VFX, and fixed concurrency giving priority to the Ghost ability.
Weapon VFX now works correctly with Blur and Ghost.
Resolved miscellaneous code-based performance issues.
Fixed player and party-member avatars displaying incorrectly in main menu.
Fixed Friends icon number inconsistency.
Fixed buttons not being clickable in some menus.
Suiciding in Trials mode broke the game (administered anti-depressants to the code).
Main menu avatar and invite fixes.
Fixed size discrepancy with the flag in the Resort level (no more shrinking shark).
Fixed minor issues with the matchmaking widget.

FEATURES:

Game mode voting before map vote
Team Deathmatch
Flexible matchmaking in increments of 2 (Waits for 10 seconds to find a 3v3, then 10 seconds to find a 2v2 and allows 1v1 matchup after that)

IMPROVEMENTS:

Finishing a trials level now shows your time and provides the options to retry or exit to main menu
Power Drain damage/heal amount changed to 30 instead of 25
New top center HUD element for the classic HEAT mode
Audiovisual feedback with void/Kill-z deaths
Removed collision on Resort plants
Health pickups now give 40 HP instead of 20

BUG FIXES:

Look sensitivity doesn't save
Drone not camouflaged during Ghost ability
Rocket appears on the back during Ghost
Smokescreen drains all heat
Electroblast distortion persists after death
Electroblast distortion does not affect heat bar
Blue shark has a wrong texture applied
Visual settings not working fully

MAJOR UPDATE - Overstep 0.2!

IMPROVEMENTS/BALANCING:

Respawn timer is increased from 3 to 5 seconds
Visual feedback for player death on KillZ (void)
ESC now closes settings, friends, and Orion Bond store screens.
The Quick Game card got a simple re-design for better readability
Width of keyboard bindings window was too small in some situations, it's wider now
Added resolution settings
Added windowed/full screen options
New desktop icon
Added Early Access text to loading screens
A party widget so you can see who is in your party and their status (top right)
Re-design for the Orion Bond Store purchase message
Clicking the 'Purchase' now has a confirmation pop-up with the price. Before, it auto-purchased, players shouldn't be punished for a misclick.
If a player clicks the empty space in the 'Redeem Code' area to select the input field, it does not work
When finishing a run of Trials, the text should be tweaked from "You have found all the orbs!" to "You found all the orbs!

BUG / ISSUES FIXED:

Half of the enemy weapons show no VFX to the player.
Rockets always appear as red when being carried. When an enemy is carrying the player team's rocket it should be blue
Player level on the scoreboard says CorpName
Scrollbars should be outside the container for skin and weapon selection
Devastator has an incorrect icon
In the Skins sub-menu, selecting 'Get Skins Now!' takes you to the Store page, but does not update the heading tabs at the top - it remains on 'Loadout' instead of switching to 'Store'
After you have invited someone, the free slot retains the '+' symbol. Should have an invitation cooldown.
OB Store button - wrong highlight color
Settings Button - default state is currently "hover". Friends Button - hover state is wrong. Both buttons are missing an Active state
The 'Coming Soon' needs to be more prominent on the League and the Hub options
Sub-Menu Active button gray background should be the same as default
After you click 'Capture the Flag' to start matchmaking, it greys out and looks like you broke something
Friends Button - Statically showing 5 friends online
Sub-menu (everywhere) Sound Cue plays twice, On click and on release
Slight errors in Quick Game CTF description: "opponents" should be "opponent's", and "return to your spawn point" should be "return to your flag zone".
While looking for a game, if you click the 'x' to cancel, the timer briefly flashes "00:-1"
Turntables shouldn't be visible without more players in your party
Controller buttons shouldn't be visible without a controller
Starting QP lacks feedback on the queue starting successfully.
Players will get stuck without being able to move if they shift + tab in an ongoing match
The back button has the incorrect design
If both players send and accept an invite, it will bug out the party system
All party members should receive a notification when a player has joined or left the party
No indication as to whether they non-party-host has entered matchmaking or not. Non-Party Hosts don't see matchmaking status
Invite Button - default, and hover state are wrong
When a player closes the game, the party is not disbanded on either side
Sometimes, not all players show in the lobby before map selection display
Settings - Pressing 'Reset to Default' does not reset all to default, it only affects Resolution Scale
OB Store - There is a horizontal scrollbar due to sizing of the package buttons
OB Store - Spaces between cards can be smaller

COMMUNITY CHALLENGE WITH AWESOME AWARDS!

This community challenge contains two perk levels, one at 100 matches, and one at 200 matches. As it's a community challenge, ALL games matter, and everyone will earn the perk rewards. BUG FIXES:

You can spam invites repeatedly with no limit.
The main menu is laggy, compared to the gameplay itself.
Party system: Sometimes the player that gets invited will not join a found game and be left in the main menu.
If you join someone's party when they are joining you the entire system breaks.

IMPROVEMENTS:

Both stealing and delivering the flag now have VFX
Ledge slide boost nerf! Max speed from sliding and jumping from an edge reduced from 2900 to 2400 units.

BUG FIXES:

The tutorial timer isn't working properly
Item models don't load properly, even though the item itself is there
Switching weapons can remove a round from them
